Private Lending Returns to U.S. Housing Market

The Economist reports:
Private investors are, slowly, returning to the mortgage market; the federally backed share of new loans has dropped from 94% in 2009 to 81% in the third quarter of last year, according to Inside Mortgage Finance, a trade publication.
Imagine a world without the Fed, Fannie, and Freddie.
