Flashback 1990: When Anne Burke's Files Were Subpoenaed

Here's a flashback from The Chicago Sun-Times on February 1,1990:
Federal probers investigating judicial corruption have subpoenaed files from a murder trial in which Ald. Edward M. Burke's wife, Anne, acted as a defense attorney, Circuit Court records show.

Federal sources said the inquiry is the same investigation in which Ald. Burke (14th) recently was subpoenaed, as the Chicago Sun-Times revealed Wednesday.

The investigation is an outgrowth of the "Operation Kaffeeklatsch" federal inquiry into corruption among 1st Ward politicians and their influence on the local judiciary.
I guess nothing can stop someone from reaching a spot on the Illinois Supreme Court:if they have the right pull.
