Study:44% of Chicago Public School Students Drop Out By Senior Year

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
New dropout-prevention and re-enrollment strategies to be launched today by Chicago Public Schools are based on what the district is calling groundbreaking data, but that assertion is being disputed by school watchdog groups.

The study by the Parthenon Group of Boston, following the freshman class of 2001 through its expected graduation by 2006, found nearly half -- 44 percent -- had dropped out by senior year. In fact, since 2000, the data showed, nearly half of all CPS entering freshmen have dropped out by their senior year.
Another Mayor Daley and Alderman Ed Burke success story.Great moments in high taxation.
