Quad City lawmakers are heading to Springfield to vote on a mass transit bail-out for Chicago commuters. But the bill, as amended by Governor Rod Blagojevich, also calls for free bus rides for senior citizens across the state of Illinois.Democrats,in Illinois, say the most amazing things.
It's the latest example of brinksmanship politicking between the Democratic governor and the Democratically-controlled legislature. And for some Democrats, the in-fighting is wearing a little thin.
"It's a sad situation when you have control of the House and the Senate and the Governorship and we have this in-fighting," said Quad City Democratic state representative Pat Verschoore.
And the new year may not be a time for new friendships to blossom between Governor Rod Blagojevich and Democratic lawmakers like State Senator Mike Jacobs.
"The governor is getting to the point where people are saying to me 'How do we get rid of this guy?'," said Jacobs, a Democrat from Moline.
The latest issue involves busing. Lawmakers in Illinois will decide Thursday if they'll support a Chicago mass transit bill that also accepts the governor's pledge to give every senior citizen in the state a free ride.
