Chicago Mob Makes Job Recommendations For Mayor Daley

The Chicago Tribune reports on the patronage trial in Chicago:
A secretary in Mayor Richard Daley's office testified today that she shredded two file drawers of documents related to hiring in 2002 at the direction of the mayor's patronage chief, Robert Sorich.
and just who were sponsoring the favored candidates?:
The sponsors on the lists represented a who's who of power brokers in Daley's City Hall. The mayor's brothers William and Michael Daley were entered as sponsors in one database entered into evidence today.

Others who appear to have enjoyed hiring clout, according to the lists, were top Daley political strategist Jeremiah Joyce; former Intergovernmental Affairs directors Timothy Degnan, Victor Reyes and John Doerrer; retired Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Al Sanchez; Coalition for Better Government leaders Dominic Longo and Ron Calicchio; former Chicago Public Schools official Gery Chico; Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White; and Patrick Huels, who was 11th Ward alderman and Daley's City Council floor leader.

Several applicants were backed by then-union official Bruno Caruso, according to testimony. Caruso, his brother Frank Caruso and their cousin Leo Caruso were ousted from two Chicago locals of Laborers' International Union in 2001, when the union's independent hearing officer concluded that they were under the control of organized crime bosses.
Where does the Democratic party, unions, and the Chicago Outfit begin and end? Anyway,Mayor Daley sure doesn't mind having a deep association with known mobsters.Check out the history on the Caruso's and the Roti family and their close historical association with Al Capone. Here's more on the Caruso family.I guess Mayor Daley will have to explain how known made members of Chicago's Mob get to make hiring recommendations for the city of Chicago.
