Just call it an Internet get-rich scheme that didn’t work out. Only this time it’s the people of Illinois who were left holding the bag. Two years ago, Illinois legislators passed the “Amazon tax,” a tax on Internet commerce designed to help fill state coffers. Instead, it has generated only a tiny fraction of the revenue once projected and it has resulted in jobs leaving the state.
